I don't agree, Curt. First bad sign is that he contacts the ex without telling her. Dr. Phil isn't my guru, but some stuff he says makes perfect sense and one of his maxims boils down to don't do anything that you wouldn't feel comfortable having your partner watch. The only thing you can do in the interim is to work on yourself, perhaps seek some counseling with a Psych that has experience in infidelity and or addiction issues. Just think of her like a cousin to them. She is a part of their family whether you like it or not. She obviously isn't there for him. She is fine with you because their relationship wore out. LASTLY and most importantly, I would INSIST that both of you be tested for ALL STDs; including HPV and Herpes (blood test for the latter, and you have to specifically ask for this, the blood test for Herpes is not just part of a standard STD panel).
