What you're asking him to essentially do is settle for the relationship the way it is because it's so "happy" and eventually commit to you. But he CAN'T...now you're forcing him to make excuses, pull out the "my personal" issues card, he's basically doing everything he can to push you away without having to tell you just get off of his back.
